Utah Inmate Search

Utah

Utah is one of the safest states in the US, with only a violent crime rate of 2.4 incidents per 1,000 people. It is, therefore, not surprising that Utah has a low number of jails and prisons. Here are various ways to conduct an inmate search in Utah

Utah Jail Roster Inmate Search

While Utah is divided into 29 counties, it only has 19 county jails owned by the respective counties and operated by the sheriff. This implies that some counties share jails. The county jails are often used as temporary holding facilities for pretrial inmates and those serving sentences below a year. State inmates have also been housed in the county jails through the Inmate Placement Program due to insufficient space in the county prisons since 1987.

Anyone can perform an inmate search in Utah. The steps are simple. An online search of the nearest jail inmate roster is often the first step to finding an inmate incarcerated. However, this step is moot in most cases as most counties do not have a website or search tool.

If there is no online jail roster or an inmate search tool, do not fret. Go through the local directory for the sheriff's phone number and call them. You may also visit the jails and obtain the same information.

Utah Statewide Inmate Search

The Utah Department of Corrections manages and oversees the 7 state prisons. The prisons are designated according to security levels. The prisons hold most of the inmates in the state as they have at least 6500 compared to 5700 in all the local jails.

You can visit the Offender Search - Utah Department of Corrections to perform an inmate search. The inmate list is updated regularly to reflect releases and new bookings though there may be delays. All you need for the search is an inmate's first and last name. A middle name may help to narrow the result, but it is not required. The site will provide the matching result for finding your loved one on the list.

Federal Inmate Search

The Bureau of prisons handles all inmate searches and prison management across the continental United States. People are incarcerated in federal prisons for federal crimes. There is only one federal prison in Utah with approximately 1300 inmates.

Kindly visit the Federal inmate search portal and use the inmate number or name to find an inmate. The locator can be accessed across the globe as it is not geo-blocked.
