How to Look for Someone in Rhode Island's Prison/Jail System

Despite being one of the smallest US states, Rhode Island has a network of correctional and rehabilitation facilities. The Rhode Island Department of Corrections (also known as RIDOC) maintains and runs the operations of these centers. It does this by providing programming services, supervision, custody, and care.

All of these efforts ensure the successful rehabilitation of inmates. They also improve the outcomes of a prisoner in society when they are set free.

Where to Look

RIDOC maintains an online service that offers detailed information about inmates to the public. The online service only features records of individuals incarcerated in correctional and rehabilitation facilities across Rhode Island. To begin the inmate search process, proceed as follows:

  • Visit the Rhode Island DOC Inmate search page here https://doc.ri.gov/inmate-search. Fill out the form with the person's name and inmate number.
  • After doing this, the system will give a list of convicts matching the description you used in the search.
  • If you need more details about the incarcerated individual, click the "Inmate Details" option. You will see information on offenses committed, sentences, and release dates.

While the inmate information is publicly available, Rhode Island's DOC doesn't warrant its accuracy. The agency is also not liable for the use or misuse of this information. It's because some details may come from third-party sources and have biases or inaccuracies.

Finding an Inmate With a Pending Parole Hearing

Rhode Island's Parole Board is on a mission to evaluate and recommend the early release of prisoners who meet certain criteria. The body runs its programs throughout correctional facilities in the state of Rhode Island. For the board to consider an inmate for Parole, they should prove to have minimal risk to public safety.

The eligibility criteria for parole in Rhode Island differ depending on the offense and other related factors. Either way, the Parole Board lists records of inmates with pending parole hearings. The body also sets specific conditions that the parolee must meet if they get set free.

To find an inmate with a pending parole hearing, use any of the resources provided on this website: https://paroleboard.ri.gov/resources. Not that data sourced from non-state agency websites don't have an endorsement from the state. In this case, there's uncertainty about the quality, security, and privacy of the information.

Using Rhode Island's Sex Offender Registry

The Rhode Island State Police manages Rhode Island's Sex Offender Registry. You can search for an inmate convicted of a sex crime in Rhode Island from the registry. The portal allows you to register for email alerts or send a tip.
