Ohio

The state of Ohio has the sixth-largest prison system in the US. As of the start of 2020, it had 48,954 offenders in its 27 state prisons, three private prisons, two federal prisons, three juvenile detention facilities, and 108 jails. The correctional facilities keep tabs on their inmate population by maintaining elaborate offender databases accessible to family and friends online or via appointment. Then, if you need to find an inmate in Ohio, use any of the three ways to locate them: -

Ohio Statewide Offender Search

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) supervise adult felony offenders in Ohio. In turn, it oversees all the state and privately owned prisons in the region. To do this, ODRC has an online offender search on its official website. Use it to locate an inmate in an Ohio state prison as follows: -

  1. Go to https://appgateway.drc.ohio.gov/OffenderSearch
  2. Enter the offender’s name or DOC number in the search query form
  3. Select to view all offenders with corresponding names and DOC numbers, or narrow your search to display offenders currently in custody, under APA supervision, or violators at large separately
  4. Click ‘Search’
  5. The offender lookup will display the following details: -
  • Demographics – Name, Mug Shot, Date of Birth, Gender, Race, Admission Date, Institution, Status
  • Offense Information – List of Charges, Counts, Eff. Sentence Date, Jail Time Credit, Docket, Degree, Judge
  • Sentence & Parole Hearing Information - Expected Release Date/Parole Eligibility Date, Next Parole Board Hearing, Latest Parole Board Hearing/Review Type & Results

Ohio Federal Inmate Search

Cincinnati RRM and Elkton FCI are the two federal prisons in Ohio. The prisons hold up to 1,984 persons accused of violating federal laws in the region. Then, if your loved one is in custody for a federal crime in Ohio, locate them at any of the two federal prisons as follows: -

  • Go to https://www.bop.gov/mobile/find_inmate/byname.jsp
  • Opt to search for the inmate by their name or BOP number
  • Provide the inmate’s age, sex, and race, if available, to narrow your search by name
  • Click ‘Search’ to display the inmate’s name, age, sex, ethnicity, and estimated release date

Ohio Jail Roster Lookup

Finally, if your loved one is arrested by a police officer from the local police department or Sheriff’s Office, they may be in any of the 108 jails in Ohio. For this, go to the law enforcement agency’s official website and click on the corrections section to scrutinize their jail roster. The online jail roster provides a list of all inmates in the jail, with exception of arrestees undergoing the booking process. Alternatively, book an appointment with the jail administrator to scrutinize the jail roster at the jail premises.
