Nebraska

A person arrested in Nebraska may end up in jail or prison. These correctional facilities have detailed inmate listings accessible to the family and friends of the offender. Then, here are three ways to access the inmate listings and locate an offender in a Nebraska correctional facility: -

Nebraska Statewide Inmate Search

If you suspect your friend or loved one is in one of the nine state prisons in Nebraska, use the Nebraska Statewide Offender Search to locate them. Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) maintains this offender lookup. NDCS oversees an average daily inmate population of 5,516 offenders. Here are the steps: -

  1. Go to http://dcs-inmatesearch.ne.gov/Corrections/COR_input.html
  2. Provide the offender’s name or DCS ID Number in the search query form
  3. Click ‘Submit’
  4. The search results will display the following offender details: -
  • Demographics - Committed Name, Legal Name, Mug Shot, DCS ID Number, Gender, Date of Birth, Current Status, Facility, Race
  • Sentence Information – Sentence Dates, Parole Information, Release Information
  • Offense Information – Description, Offense Term, County of Commitment

Note that there are no federal prisons in Nebraska.

Nebraska Jail Roster Search

A person arrested within the last 45 days could be in any of the 63 jails in the 93 counties in Nebraska. These are city and county jails managed by the Police and Sheriff’s Departments. Each correctional facility has an elaborate jail roster, providing the following information about individuals in its custody: -

  • Inmate Demographics – Name & Aliases, Mug Shot, Age, Race, Gender, Height, Weight, Eye Color, Hair Color
  • Booking Details - Booking Date & Number, Arresting Agency, Projected Release Date, Bail Amount (If Any)
  • Offense Details – List of Charges, Offense Level, Order Type

Note that, a jail roster lists inmates with a booking number. In turn, it omits recently arrested offenders still undergoing the booking process. Then, if the online Nebraska jail roster search is unsuccessful, book an appointment with the jail administrator to scrutinize the inmate listing in person.

Nebraska Victims of Crime Alert Portal

Finally, are you a victim of crime trying to get information about the perpetrator serving time in a Nebraska correctional facility? If so, use the Nebraska Victims of Crime Alert Portal (NEVCAP) to locate the inmate, get real-time notifications of changes in their custody status of case information, and access victim resources to help you cope as a victim of crime. The state-run portal is an alternative to VINELink, the nationwide victim notification service.
