Massachusetts Inmate Search

Despite Massachusetts being the fifth smallest state by the land area, it is 15th by population. The Massachusetts Department of Corrections(MDOC) runs the Massachusetts prison system and manages inmates housed in 16 correctional facilities. Apart from the 15 state jails run by MDOC, there is one federal prison, 30 county jails, and a juvenile detention center. The juvenile detention center detains underage lawbreakers, while the county jails temporarily hold facilities for inmates in the pretrial phase or those sentenced to short sentences. 

Inmate Records 

All inmate records in the US are public information, and the  Massachusetts Public Records Law also allows the public to access all inmate information that is not confidential. As a result, all the detention facilities. Create inmate records of all the inmates in their care. However, all juvenile records are confidential and sealed. 

Performing an Inmate Search 

It is easy to perform an inmate search in Massachusetts as most of the jails have a website, and the MDOC has an easy-to-use site. Nonetheless, not everything is plain and simple, as not all prisons and jails are online, and you may need to put in extra effort to perform an inmate search for some prisons. 

County and City Jails 

Counties and cities arrest suspects on the scene and detain them in jails. This is the most likely place you will find a loved one arrested in the last 48 hours. Simply search the nearest county jail or sheriff's website and search for inmates. You may have to call or visit some jails personally when the details are not available.  

State Jails 

While MDOC has its website, it does not offer an inmate search. Instead, the resident is directed to use the Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE). You can use the VINELink website to find all inmates under the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Correction and Essex County jail in Massachusetts. Fortunately, Vinelink is available all day, every day. Here are the steps; 

1. Visit the VINE portal 
2. Enter the convict's ID number or full name 
3. Find an inmate that matches your search and confirm the details of their incarceration. 

Federal Inmate Search 

All the Massachusetts inmates found guilty of federal crimes are sent to the federal jail in Massachusetts. All those inmates are under the BOP. The inmates may be transferred across the United States. Nonetheless, they can all be found using an inmate search. Simply visit the inmate locator to find an inmate in the Massachusetts federal prison or across the country.
