Maine

Maine is a relatively small state that is divided into 16 counties with sheriffs and county jails. Additionally, the state has 8 state prisons and a city jail. A federal jail has not been built in Maine yet. Nonetheless, the federal inmates can be transferred to any of the nearby federal prisons.

All the inmates are handled depending on their trial level or whether they have been convicted of state or federal crimes. Most inmates in the state are nabbed by the sheriff and put in county jails. At least 1,800 inmates across the county jail in Maine are awaiting trial or convicted for short sentences. The remaining 2,4000 inmates are convicted in state prisons across the state.

Inmate Records

All inmate records in the US are public information. As a result, the detaining facility or agency provides detail on the inmate showing their crime, sentence, and other basic detail such as mugshots. The largest inmate detention agency is the Maine Department of Corrections(MDOC) which apprehends the lawbreakers who have been sentenced for state crimes.

The department runs adult and juvenile detention centers and keeps records on both. However, juvenile records are sealed and only available to authorized parties. Adult inmates in prison serving paroles have all the pertinent data kept by the MDOC.

Performing an Inmate Search

You can easily perform an inmate search in Maine, thanks to the few sheriff jails and state prisons. The inmate search is performed at the relevant detention facility. All facilities keep an inmate roster of all the inmates locked up, and the roster is updated regularly to reflect transfers, releases, and bookings.

County and City Jails

All county inmate searches can only be performed at the respective county jail or sheriff's office. Some jails may have websites that are updated regularly with inmate details. This makes it easy to perform a search from the comfort of your home. Similarly, you can contact a search on third-party sites that post-jail rosters.

Federal and State Jails

The MDOC is the institution charged with maintaining all state prisons. They maintain all adult inmate records in the Adult Prisoner and Probationer Search Service. The service lets anyone access details on the incarcerated inmates for free.

The database has info on both state and federal inmates. You can also find details on probationary prisoners under supervision, monitored sex offenders, and those on parole or community confinement under supervision. You can find an inmate using the following steps.

  1. Go to the MDOC offender locator
  2. Enter the inmate's basic information, such as
  • Prisoner's full name
  • Number MDOC
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Race
  1. Filter through the results and click on the inmate profile you need to see.

You may use the Federal BOP locator for any federal inmates.
