Hawaii has four state prisons, three private prisons, a federal prison, and four state jails. If your friend or loved one is incarcerated in Hawaii, they could be serving their sentences in any of these correctional facilities or under state supervision. Here are some of the ways you can locate them:

Searching for Someone in Hawaii State Prisons & State Jails

The State of Hawaii operates its city and county jails at the state level. In turn, the State of Hawaii Department of Public Safety has a corrections division that oversees the four state prisons and four state jails in Hawaii. By the end of November 2022, there were 2,866 offenders, surpassing the overall inmate capacity of 2,491 offenders in the state jails and prisons. They comprised sentenced felons, jail inmates, parole violators, and probation violators. Still, the state agency has no online offender search lookup on its official website. Instead, it recommends using the Hawaii Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) website to locate an inmate under its jurisdiction.

Then, if you wish to locate someone serving time in a Hawaii state prison or state jail, use the Hawaii SAVIN service as follows: -

  • Download the VINE mobile app, or go to www.vinelink.com
  • Select Georgia
  • Click 'Search and Register'
  • Search by facility, offender name, or offender DOC number
  • Click Search to display the offender's personal details, criminal history, and custody status

Once you locate the inmate in a Hawaii state prison or jail, call 1-877-846-3444 and follow the prompts to register for email or phone notifications on the offender's release, transfer, escape, or death.

Hawaii Federal Inmate Search

Honolulu Federal Detention Center at 353 Elliott Street, Honolulu, HI 96819, is the sole federal prison in Hawaii. The prison holds up to 315 male and female offenders convicted of violating federal laws in the region. Use the offender search lookup on the Federal Bureau of Prisons official website to locate an inmate at FDC Honolulu as follows: -

  • Go to https://www.bop.gov/inmateloc/
  • Opt to search for the inmate by name or their incarceration number
  • If searching by name, provide the inmate's name and narrow the search by specifying their race, sex, or age if known
  • If searching by incarceration number, type the inmate's BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, or INS Number in the search query form
  • Click 'Search' to view the inmate's name, incarceration number, sex, age, race and release date

Locating an Inmate in a Hawaii Private Prison

Hawaii Department of Public Safety contracts sends up to a third of its inmate population to private prisons on the mainland to ease overcrowding in its state prisons. The privately owned prisons include the Saguaro Correctional Center (SCC) in Pinal County, Arizona. Hence, the offenders are now under the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Then, to locate a Hawaii inmate serving time in a private prison in Arizona, use the Arizona statewide inmate search as follows: -
