Georgia Inmate Search

Georgia

In 2019, Georgia had an incarceration rate of 968 per 100,000 people, much higher than the nationwide average of 664 per 100,000 people. More so, there were approximately 102,000 offenders behind bars in that year. The inmates served time in state prisons and federal prisons. Likewise, pretrial detainees and offenders serving short sentences of up to 12 months end up in local jails. For this, local law enforcement agencies and the Department of Corrections maintained elaborate inmate databases and made them accessible to the public via their official websites. Then, do you wish to locate someone serving time in a Georgia correctional facility? Check out the steps below: -

Georgia Statewide Inmate Search

There are at least 47,000 felons serving time in Georgia state prisons and state supervision. Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is the state agency overseeing the state prisons in Georgia. The Department has a free offender search lookup on its official website. Through it, family and friends can confirm if their loved ones are incarcerated at a Georgia state prison or are on community supervision. Here are the steps: -

  1. Go to https://georgia.gov/find-offender
  2. Click ‘Begin Search’
  3. Agree to terms and conditions
  4. Search by name or description or by ID or case number
  5. If searching by name or description, provide the offender’s name, gender, race, age, or most recent institution in the search query form
  6. If searching by ID or case number, provide the offender’s GDC ID number or case number in the search query form
  7. The search results will display the following details about the inmate: -
  • Name, Known Aliases, & Mug shot
  • GDC ID Number
  • Physical Description - Year of Birth, Race, Gender, Height, Weight, Eye Color, Hair Color, Scars, Marks & Tattoos
  • Incarceration Details – Major Offense, Most Recent Institution, Max Possible Release Date, Actual Release Date, Currently Serving, Current Status
  • Current and Prior Sentences – Case Number, Offense, Conviction County, Crime Commitment Date, Sentence Length

Georgia Federal Inmate Search

There are five federal prisons and two federal prison camps in Georgia. The correctional facilities hold up to 3,031 male and female offenders at any given time. These are persons found violating federal laws in the region. Then, if you need to locate a federal inmate in Georgia, use the offender search lookup by the Federal Bureau of Prisons as follows: -

  • Go to https://www.bop.gov/inmateloc/
  • Provide the offender’s name or incarceration number in the search query form
  • If searching by offender’s name, narrow your search using their race, age, and sex if known
  • If searching using the offender’s incarceration number, type either the BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, or INS Number, whichever is available
  • Click ‘Search’ to generate the offender’s name, incarceration number, age, race, sex, and release date

Georgia Jail Roster Search

Georgia Police Departments and Sheriff’s Offices operate 183 city and county jails throughout the state. These primary holding facilities hold offenders for up to 12 months as they await trial, sentencing, bail settlement, transfer to prison, or serve short sentences. Then, was your loved one booked by a Georgia law enforcement agency in the last 60 days? If so, scrutinize the agency’s jail roster to confirm their whereabouts. Most law enforcement agencies provide links to their jail rosters on their official websites. Still, you may need to book an appointment with the jail administrator to search for the detainee in person.
