Colorado Inmate Search

Updated on: February 14, 2024
Colorado

In 2020, the state of Colorado had an incarceration rate of 277 per 100,000 people, while the nationwide average stood at 358 per 100,000 people. As the inmate population grows, law enforcement agencies are adopting the latest technology to make it easier for family and friends to locate their loved ones serving time in the Colorado prison system. Then, is your loved one incarcerated in Colorado? Here are three ways to locate them: -

Colorado Statewide Inmate Search

Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) oversees felons in 19 state prisons and another two private prisons. By December 2022, the prisons held 16,866 offenders under low, minimum, medium, and maximum security custody. Another 9,469 offenders were on parole, 107 were on residential transition, 883 were in out-of-state facilities, and 176 were in juvenile correctional facilities. For this, the Department maintains a detailed offender search on its official website, helping it keep tabs on all these offenders in custody and under community supervision. Then, if you wish to locate an inmate under CDOC supervision, use the statewide offender search as follows: -

  1. Go to https://co.colorado.gov/locate-inmate
  2. Click on 'Find an Inmate'
  3. Provide the offender's name or DOC number
  4. Narrow your search by specifying the offender's gender
  5. Click 'Submit'
  6. The search will generate the following offender details: -
  • Personal Details – Name & Mug Shot, DOC Number, Age, Ethnicity, Gender, Hair Color, Eye Color, Height, Weight,
  • Current Convictions – Sentence Date, Sentence, County, Case Number
  • Custody Status –Est. Parole Eligibility Date, Next Parole Hearing Date, Est. Mandatory Release Date, Est. Sentence Discharge Date, Current Facility Assignment
  1. Click on 'Parole Board' to view offenders with upcoming parole hearings.

The above results exclude details for fugitives and walkaways.

Federal Inmate Search

Colorado has four federal prisons and another two federal camps with a capacity of 3,195 offenders. Then, if you are searching for someone convicted of a federal crime in Colorado, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator to find them as follows: -

  • Go to https://www.bop.gov/inmateloc/
  • Opt to search by name or number
  • The search will generate the offender's name, registration number, age, race, sex, release date, and current location

Jail Roster Search

Finally, is the person you are searching for arrested by a Colorado law enforcement agency within the last 45 to 60 days? If so, they could be in a county or city jail. For this, follow up with the arresting Police Department or Sheriff's Office to scrutinize their jail roster in person. Better still; visit the law enforcement agency's official website and use their online offender search to locate the detainee.

Indeed, 43 city and county jails serve as primary holding facilities for Police Departments and Sheriff's Offices in Colorado. Their jail rosters list all inmates booked in a city or county jail. And depending on the time of your search, the inmate listing may include recently released inmates and those transferred to other prisons. Hence, it is always advisable to countercheck with the jail administrator after locating an inmate using the online offender search lookup.
