Alaska Inmate Search

Updated on: March 1, 2024
Alaska

Alaska prison system comprises 27 state prisons and 18 city and county jails. The correctional facilities hold up to 1,782 offenders as they await trial or serve their sentences in holding facilities with varying security levels. Another 5,000 parolees and probationers remain under community supervision. Then, are you searching for someone incarcerated in Alaska? Here are four ways to locate them: -

Alaska Statewide Inmate Search

Alaska Department of Corrections (AKDOC) maintains a statewide offender search at its official website. Use it to locate a felon in an Alaska state prison or under community service. And, since there are no federal prisons in Alaska, your statewide inmate search on AKDOC will also locate a federal inmate. Then, open the statewide offender search and provide the offender’s name or DOC number in the search query form. The statewide search will generate the offender’s personal information, criminal history, and custody status. Inmate records for juvenile offenders are confidential, hence not available for public scrutiny.

Using Alaska Jail Rosters

Alaska city and county jails serve as the primary holding facilities for local Police Departments and Sheriff’s Offices. Hence, if your friend or loved one was recently arrested by a local law enforcement agency, start by looking for them at a nearby city or county jail. The Departments maintain up-to-date jail rosters, providing you with a list of all current inmates awaiting trial, sentencing, release, and transfer to other jails or prisons. Also, the list includes offenders serving sentences of up to 12 months. Then, open the offender search link on the Department’s official website or book an appointment with the jail administrator to scrutinize the jail roster in person.

Alaska Sex Offender/Child Kidnapper Registry

Are you searching for an incarcerated registered sex offender or child kidnapper? If so, these offenders must register annually with the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety for 15 years after release from prison. And the Department maintains a Sex Offender /Child Kidnaper Registry on its official website. Use the registry to locate the inmate as follows: -

  1. Go to https://sor.dps.alaska.gov/Registry/Search
  2. Provide the offender’s name and last registered address in the search query form
  3. Click ‘Submit Query’ to generate the search results
  4. The offender search will display the following details about the registered sex offender: -
  • Personal Information - Name, Aliases, & Mug Shot, Sex, Race, Hair, Eyes, Height, Weight, Date of Birth, Current Employer
  • Address Details
  • Current Custody Status
  • History of Convictions – Nature of Offense, Offense Date, Conviction Date

Alaska VINELink

Finally, if you are a victim of crime, use the Alaska VINELink to locate the incarcerated perpetrator and then register your phone number or email address to receive phone and email notifications whenever there is a change in the case details or custody status. Here, you get alerts on the release, death, electronic monitoring, escape, furlough, and 30 days advance notice for when the offender is about to be released. Also, you will get notifications on court hearings after contacting the paralegal handling the case. Then, go to www.vinelink.com or call 1-800-247-9763 and follow the instructions or call prompts to locate the offender and register for notifications. Alaska VINELink allows the registration of multiple phone numbers and email addresses.
